Three Stage Route Tours for 2014, April 26, 2014, and October 19, 2014.
Sponsored by the Coarsegold Historical Society, the Stage Route Tour is a six-hour bus excursion that takes travelers through the historic country of Eastern Madera County. There is a running commentary throughout the trip from the local tour leaders. From the Coarsegold Historic Museum, the bus travels west on Road 415 to Knowles with a stop and visit to the 2nd oldest bar in California. On to the Raymond Museum, site of the trains and open stages that took the curious travelers up the mountains to Wawona and Yosemite Valley. Travel the road they traveled on the stages, with a stop at what was once the thriving mining town of Grub Gulch. Then visit the Indian Ceremonial Round House where lunch will be served and a lecture on local Indians will take place. On to old “Fresno Flats,” then to Coarsegold for a short walking tour. Finally, back to the Coarsegold museum for a mid-afternoon dessert and beverage.
